Mongo (Pear Son Rompe); Beer (Sensational Belafonte); Victor (Les Cogelones).

Three of the most recognized, applauded and admired alternative and independent groups in the Valley of Mexico metropolitan area will come together for the first time to celebrate that we have withstood the adversities of a pandemic. It is cogelones, Sensational Belafonte Yes His Rompe Pearpunk, rock, cumbia and nel for all tastes.

The appointment is this Saturday, December 3 in the impressive and world-famous Salón Los Ángeles de Mexico, located at 206 Lerdo Street, Guerrero district, Cuauhtémoc town hall, very close to the heart of the city. Tlatelolco housing unit.

But before a good destroy, we had the opportunity to exchange with the members of the three groups on the present and the future of the independent music scene, the power behind the microphone and the role of the fanatic in the art worldentertainment and show.

The mission of Belafonte Sensational, Los Cogelones and Son Rompe Pera

He was Ale de la Portales, percussion, harmonica and backing vocals by Belafonte Sensational who assured that during this weekend we will see “the beginning of something very big”, since we are talking about something more than a concert, it is “a sample of everything that can be done at from self-management. Without the need for big promoters who have the music industry so fucked up. It’s a sign that network, get dirty, get closer, cooperate, we can do great things and useful”.

Moreover, he revealed that the goals behind the project were not “to bleed the pockets of the public in an economic sense”, but to get them to directly support people who make music, and that they know that the money is not going to be kept by businessmen. . Plus, they want to demonstrate the power that projects like theirs have.

“Not to stop me, it’s true, but we are part of the vanguard music, from the underground scene. Bands which are the international standard and we represent the country beyond the borders, we put the name of Mexico at the top”, considered the announcer also from Gallito Mañanero.

In this context, Víctor, singer and guitarist of Los Cogelonesadded that its mission inside and outside the territorial limits aims that the history of the country is not made invisiblebecause throughout 500 years of history “people have been forced to believe in ideas and forms that did not originate in these lands. We want to start looking at life where we come from. No matter what whether you’re doing, painting, music or art, or sweeping the city streets, well when you do it with identity, understanding who you are, no matter where you are or what you are doing”.

“These are times when it is important to root ourselves in our history, because it is this difference that will make us better understand the world”, insisted the musician from Nezahualcóyotl, in the State of Mexico.

He also added that for the above It’s important for bands today to try harder to do their own thing and not to copy someone else, because the country is rich in resources and ideas. He pointed out, in the case of his companions, the creativity they show when they integrate, for example, the marimba into punk, or the narration of the neighborhood into the lyrics of the songs.

“We are very national proposals, very native to these landsvery contemporary too,” he says.

Mongo, of Son Rompe Pera, a band that traveled Europe with their marimba on their shoulders and their cumbia punk under their arms, added that in their case, they want to hit the marimbaan instrument one hundred percent from southern Mexico, the recognition you deservemake the most of it creatively.

The power behind a microphone

On the other hand, we talk about the power supplied with a microphone and access to a large audience as they currently have, and if at some point they considered it their responsibility to spread messages across the world, qualifying them in some way as “positives”.

“I feel so, of praxis”, considered Ale de la Portales. “Many times they ask us what we play, and it occurred to us to define it as NEL. we play nelwhich implies a denial of class, denial of belonging to certain rhythms, to a certain drawer. To go far to get your message across, you need to know who you are, you have to find your voice and be faithful to its originto its roots. We are convinced and hence the strength of our message,” he concluded.

For his part, Víctor assured that when he goes on stage he doesn’t think about changing the worldnor in any speech they just want to share their craziness with others, but it doesn’t make them oblivious to know that there is a power behind the microphone and yes you can change the world with.

“A lot of people after listening to good music say ‘let’s go, with eggs’, and then music becomes something important for human beings, art in general, and it seems to me that the speech has to be directed somewhere (…) Maybe you wake up sad, and you put on some Son Rompe Pera, a cumbia, and your day changes. Next unconscious, everything must have a meaning”.

Public Responsibility

Finally, they were asked about the responsibility that the public should also have towards art and with artists, far beyond simply paying for a ticket or merchandise and listening to them on digital platforms, there are things that can be done to help improve the living conditions of all.

“As an audience, in terms of cultural content, we must have a responsible consumption. We are on the verge of an ecological disaster, overpopulation is a reality, I see it as very difficult for the generations who are on the way. We need to do an act of awareness as fansin the work of self-criticism, of reflection on all the factors of daily life, trying to break the capitalist parameters that are instilled in us. Think a bit more about the communityto bond,” explained El Ale de la Portales.

Víctor, from Los Cogelones, fully agrees with the above statement, adding that criticism should be about what we consume, listen to or bring to life. “Everyone does what they want to do, it’s a very selfish world, and criticism will help us change that“, he confessed.

Mongo was not far behind, and assured that the key for him is to be good people to those around you, starting at home, where we can teach future generations that the world It’s not necessarily how they paint it, chaosand it can also mean an experience full of “cool” things.

“You have to have a broad criterion in question until how to educate your children about what is happening in the world right now it’s chaos,” he said.

Finally, Ale, a musician from Belafonte Sensacional, concluded that the upcoming concert is a clear example of what they want to offer their environment to try to change it, because “there’s no big promoter, there’s no record company, or any of that stuff that’s rotten the music industryand to the extent that we become friends, the future may be a little better.”
