An earthquake of magnitude 5.7 shook the Indonesian island of Java, the most populated in the country, on Saturday, without the authorities reporting for the moment any damage or victims. The United States Geological Survey, which records seismic activity around the world, recorded the earthquake at 4:49 p.m. local time (09:49 GMT) and placed the hypocenter at a depth of 112 kilometers and the epicenter at 18 kilometers from the town of Banjar.

For its part, the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) estimated the magnitude of the earthquake at 6.4, with a depth of 118 kilometers, and ruled out the possibility of potential tsunamis. Indonesia sits on the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, an area of ​​high seismic and volcanic activity in which some 7,000 earthquakes are recorded each year, most of them moderate.

A 4.7 magnitude earthquake shakes the state of Venezuela on the border with Colombia

In social networks, citizens reported that the telluric movement affected the populations closest to the border such as San Cristóbal, La Fría and Ureña, in Venezuela, and Norte de Santander, in Colombia. So far, local authorities have reported no damage or casualties as a result of this event.
