Street View: how to know where Google’s car is?

Google Street View displays images of streets, tourist attractions, and other public spaces to make searching on Google Maps easier. Therefore, the company periodically takes new photos to keep the tool updated. But did you know that Google reveals the places that will be mapped in the future? Find out how in the following lines.

The tool is available on Google’s website and is available to everyone on the page entitled “How it works”. In addition to explaining how the images are collected, the site has a “What places we’ll be mapping this month” section. In this part users can check when there will be new mappings in specific locations.

To know Google’s “agenda” simply choose the country and region. Then click “Check Neighborhoods” and check below where the next mapping will be by car or on foot.

Google, however, does not offer a completely precise date. For example, when selecting Sao Paulo, the company only informed that he would spend between January and December 2024 in the capital Sao Paulo, Guarulhos and the like.

“Since there are factors beyond our control (weather, road closures, etc.), it is always possible that our cars may not work or that small changes may occur,” they explain. “Also remember that when a particular city is specified, the list may include smaller cities and towns that are reasonably close by.”

In addition to the car, which has a camera installed on the roof, Google also captures images in other ways with the help of the Trekker. This is a portable piece of equipment, which can even be placed in a backpack so that a person can make recordings while walking.

However, this is not the only way to use the Trekker. The equipment can also be placed on a snowmobile or motorcycle. This versatility helps, for example, to record images in places where cars are not allowed.
