China reveals goals for future lunar research station

Chinese scientists have set several goals for a future international lunar research station, including moon-based Earth observation and utilization of lunar resources. The news was published by the newspaper Chinese science newspaper, belonging to the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), this Friday (17th).

According to the publication, Zou Yongliao, head of CAS’s Lunar Exploration and Deep Space Division, revealed the goals at a recent national space conference.

He said China plans to establish a lunar research station project based on two planned exploration missions by 2028, and later expand it into an international complex.

According to Zou, as the scientists develop plans for the research station, they have already made progress in achieving specific goals for the science and application.

These objectives mainly concern the study of the evolution of the Moon, the exploration of stellar formation and activity and the observation of the Sun and the Earth from our natural satellite.

The CAS representative also mentioned conducting scientific experiments, such as growing plants on the lunar surface and using lunar resources such as minerals and solar energy.

He stressed that the Moon is still the “main field” of deep space exploration and the construction of an international lunar research station would be a historic necessity.
