Russia will not cut gas in Europe immediately

Russia has said it will not immediately cut off gas supplies in Europe. With the sanctions imposed on the president Vladimir Putinhe decreed that payment for gas must be in rubles from this Friday (1st).

According to CNN, the Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Peskovsaid this Friday (1st) that it is not in the decree that gas would be cut on April 1st. “Yesterday, I received a lot of questions about whether this means that if there is no confirmation in rubles, does this mean that the gas supply will be cut off from April 1? No, that doesn’t happen and it doesn’t follow the decree.”

Still regarding payment, Peskov explained that today’s gas deliveries should not be paid for until late April or early May. The new decree states that Western gas buyers must convert euros into dollars in order to deposit rubles to pay Gazprom.

Peskov also told reporters that this decision that the gas payment should be in rubles, could be reversed in the future.

Russia and Ukraine conflict

On February 24, the Russian government invaded Ukraine and bombed parts of the country. After several threats, Vladimir Putin authorized attacks by land, air and sea. One of the reasons for this invasion is Ukraine’s rapprochement with the West.

Russian President Vladimir Putin does not accept that Ukraine joins NATO. Furthermore, Putin wants to increase his power of influence in the region. Russia and Ukraine have experienced other conflicts. As independent as Ukraine is today, its relationship with Russia is not fully resolved.
