Golden Raspberry Cancels Bruce Willis and Shelley Duvall Award; understand

“After much thought and consideration, the organizers have made the decision to rescind the Award given to Bruce Willis, due to his recently released diagnosis.“, said the co-founders of Golden Raspberry, and , in a statement. “If someone’s medical condition is a factor in their decision making and/or performance, we recognize that it is inappropriate to give them such an award.”.

In addition, Shelley Duvall’s nomination was revoked for his performance in The illuminatedciting “extenuating circumstances” and the director’s “treatment of her throughout production” .

It is worth remembering that the award organizers dedicated an entire category to Willis in this year’s edition, nominating eight films for the exclusive category of Worst Performance by Bruce Willis. Keyed up!

Willis’ family revealed that he was diagnosed with aphasia, a condition caused by damage to a specific part of the brain that controls expression and understanding of language, and that he would be “walking away” from acting.

Several filmmakers who worked with Willis in recent years also told Los Angeles Times who observed the actor struggling on set. While co-stars, collaborators, friends and fans have publicly expressed their support for Willis, the Golden Raspberry crowd has been heavily criticized for its focus on the actor.

As for Shelley, she spoke to the The Hollywood Reporter about her role in the iconic film in an interview last year.

“Thirty-five takes, running and crying and carrying a little boy, it gets tough. And full performance from the first rehearsal. This is hard.” She added: “After a while, your body rebels. He says, ‘Stop doing this to me. I don’t want to cry every day.’ And sometimes just that thought made me cry.
