Qatar will supply Germany with liquefied natural gas for 15 years

In Berlin, the Minister of Economy, Robert Habeck, stated that he was satisfied with the duration of the contract with QatarEnergy and specified that “Affected companies must be aware that the receiving terminal in Germany must be phased out over time if we are to achieve our climate protection goals.. Saad al-Kaabi said that negotiations are underway with German companies on possible new supply contracts.

After the invasion of Ukraine, Qatar was courted by Europe

Asia (led by China, Japan and South Korea) is the main market for Qatari gas, which European countries are increasingly eyeing after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. But negotiations with the Europeans have been difficult, with Germany and other countries refusing to sign long-term agreements identical to those that bind Qatar to its Asian clients. Last week, the country reached a twenty-seven-year supply agreement with Chinese firm Sinopec, an industry record.
