Cultural tourism and heritage

The world sees Mexico very clearly. The vision of our country, from different continents, is sometimes better than the vision from the inside, which, for the most part, is biased by economic and political interests.

Mexico is considered an essentially tourist and oil country, neighbor and partner of the United States and Canada, with production and export of oil, maquiladora of various products on a global scale, such as the automobile sector; inventor and exporter of scientific talents in medicine, construction, design, fashion, culture, etc.

Another notable asset is its tourism with its beaches, its sea, its nature, its gastronomy, its cultural heritage, its archaeological heritage, its joy and the fraternity of its inhabitants!

Now let’s think a little about what we already know: tourism and oil as the country’s main income. However, we must consider that tourism is increasing and, on the other hand, oil will continue to disappear; Moreover, it will always depend on other factors – wars, pandemics, stock and currency market falls, etc. – to know what price this will have and we must wait day after day what the Arab countries and the agents of world power say.

However, we have a solid and extraordinary strength that is still little exploited (in a good way): cultural tourism with its tangible and intangible heritage. For example, there are diverse cultures in the national territory with anthropological, ethnological, historical data, music, dances, beliefs, medicinal wisdom and much more, all of which is still little disseminated, except, today today, of the great Maya Train project. , which will open a world of dissemination of the culture of our southeast – we hope that these tourism and railway projects will continue, as could be the case with the next Huasteco Train.

We also have thousands of historical monuments, sculptures, paintings that require further restoration and constant maintenance, as well as hundreds of archaeological sites and areas (over two hundred thousand) that are still hidden and need to be highlighted.

How would they see the government giving first place, with its three levels, to private initiative to see in perspective our culture and our tourism, and permanently giving it one of the five largest government budgets, as well as a priority budget for broadcasting. with commercial capital. It would be fantastic to decide, as a country, to see the future already present and based on history, to provide the largest healthy economy a country can have, where we can promote sustained growth of historic cities and of their culture. , generating employment and business well-being throughout Mexico would be the best investment and even more so if we know that oil is not eternal; tourism and its cultural heritage is, let’s take care of it and enjoy it!
