Cyberpolice warn of new form of online fraud

First they send you a message asking you to like the profiles of artists and influencers, then they ask you to invest in cryptocurrency and invite your friends, and finally they block you: this is the new trick used by criminals to abuse their victims.

Through a press release, the Citizen Security Secretary warned against the increase in the use of this particular fraud scheme, in which criminals make invest large sums of money with the promise of huge profits.

How does the new cyber fraud work?

According to the Cyber ​​Police, it all starts with a message from a foreign number, which can arrive via SMS or WhatsApp, in which a job is proposed which consists in giving “likes” to the videos or profiles of artists and influencers.

“In the first mission, they ask to ‘like’ the videos and share the evidence with the suspected recruiters and, for the following missions, urge internet users to invest their earnings in cryptocurrenciesfor this they send a link that leads to an apocryphal investment page.

“Cybercriminals they make people believe that as you progress through the missions the commissions increaseso they push them to invest so that their capital grows, and once they have convinced their victims to make the investment, they are blocked, ”explains the agency.

To avoid being a victim of these crimes, the Cyber ​​Police recommends not to click on suspicious links or provide personal information to unknown numbersin addition to verifying the identity of the sender before participating in dynamics of this type or making payments and money transfers.
