It looks like a scene straight out of Hollywood: a car flies away after climbing the ramp of a flatbed tow truck on a Georgia highway. And the whole accident was recorded by a policeman’s body camera. Stunned motorists and police watched the chilling scene as the Nissan Altima flew 120 feet (37 meters) down a Lowndes County highway, according to a May 24 police report of the crash.

A 21-year-old woman from Florida was behind the wheel, according to the report. She was taken to South Georgia Medical Center after being seriously injured, Georgia State Patrol spokeswoman Courtney Floyd said Wednesday.

After falling upside down, the Nissan struck another vehicle and then came to a stop after traveling about 23 feet (7 meters), according to the report. Before the car even stopped, the police officer whose body camera recorded the accident started running to help the affected motorists.

The Lowndes County Deputy Sheriff was struck by flying debris from the vehicle, but his injuries were not serious. The tow truck was parked in the left lane with its hazard warning lights on, the accident report said. Authorities were on the scene as they traveled there for another incident.

Georgia State Patrol Lt. Crystal Zion told WSB television that the accident highlights the importance of a law that requires drivers to move from one lane when possible if an emergency vehicle with its lights on is parked. .

“When you see those lights, slow down, stop,” he said.
