Party in the ring! The WBC celebrates 60 years of supporting boxers

With a Mexican party, the legends and personalities of the sport of fists, met yesterday the president of the World Boxing Council, Mauricio Sulaiman, to celebrate the organization’s 60th anniversary, and also the anniversary of donating José Sulaimán, who yesterday would be 92 years old.

During the meeting, memories and anecdotes were shared which marked the career of idols like Julio César Chávez, Rubén Olivares, Humberto González, Pipino Cuevas, Roberto Durán and Ana María Torres.

“We celebrate the WBC, life, in the company of friends. Reaching these 60 years is synonymous with solidity, with the same principles and values, with the greatness of the fighters, which is the only priority of the organization”, said Sulaimán Saldívar, in an interview with El Heraldo de México.

The event, at the Arroyo restaurant, was also attended by Maria Jose Alcalaleader of the Mexican Olympic Committee; Yoon from Luisa, former president of the Mexican Football Federation; And Chucho Ramirez, DT Under-17 world champion of the national football team.

During the celebration, the trajectory of the ring idols was recognized, who were given a statue in the shape of a boxer, who wears a WBC belt.

One of the winners of the night was El Púas Olivares from the capital, who recalled the duel he had against Lionel Rose, 54 years ago, against whom he won his first world championship, at the weight cock, eliminating the dangerous Australian in five rounds. .

“It is extremely important to remember the exploits of all these heroes who have given us great stories, and this type of recognition is a small but necessary reward,” said Sulaimán Saldívar, who attended with his wife Christiane Manzur and their son, Mauricio Jr. .
