The arrest of President Vladimir Putin by a foreign country, following the arrest warrant issued last week by the International Criminal Court, would amount to declaring war on Moscowwarned former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.

“Let’s imagine the situation. The head of state of a nuclear power travels to, say, Germany and is arrested. What is this ? A declaration of war against Russia”, said Medvedev, current number two in the Russian Security Council and who served as the country’s prime minister from 2012 to 2020.

“If that happens, all of our capabilities, like missiles and such, will be directed against the Bundestagthe office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, etc. Medvedev added.

The Court, based in The Hague, last week issued an arrest warrant against Putin, accused of war crimes, for the deportation of Ukrainian children during Moscow’s offensive against Ukraine.

According to Kyiv, over 16,000 Ukrainian children reportedly deported to Russia since the start of the offensive just over a year ago, and many of them have reportedly been transferred to institutions and shelters.

The International Criminal Court has denounced Moscow’s threats, after Russian justice announced the opening of a criminal investigation against several of its judges and its prosecutor, Karim Khan.

Earlier this week, Medvedev threatened the court with a missile attack and invited its magistrates to look attentively at the sky.

“The court is just a miserable organization, it’s not the people of NATO countries, that’s why they won’t start a war. They will be afraid. No one will regret it. So, judges, look carefully at the sky“, threatened the Russian politician on March 20.

Russia, which does not recognize the International Criminal Court, considers the arrest warrant against Putin as legally invalid.
