Ariadna Montiel, Welfare Secretary: 1.3 million people with disabilities have a pension

On the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the Government of Mexico, through the Secretariat of Welfare, subscribes to its commitment to promote Mexican humanism led by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador through the universal access to social pension for people with disabilities, from zero to 64 years old. of age across the country.

“It is a constitutional right to the initiative of the president on this path of consolidating the rights of people with disabilities, on December 16, 2021 he called on the governors, as well as the head of government, to sign an agreement where the government of Le Mexico contributes 50% and state governments 50% of the investment needed to provide universal coverage in their entities,” explained Welfare Secretary Ariadna Montiel Reyes.

To date, the Government of Mexico and the governments of Baja California, Baja California Sur, Campeche, Chiapas, Mexico City, Colima, Guerrero, Michoacán, Nayarit, Puebla, Sinaloa, Sonora, Tlaxcala and Zacatecas have helped all people with disabilities receive two thousand 800 pesos every two months. Thanks to this joint institutional effort, 258 thousand 888 people were added to the pension, which includes new beneficiaries between the ages of 30 and 64 who did not have a pension.

Secretary Montiel added that, thanks to the above, the registry has grown from one million 43 thousand 34 entitled to one million 301 thousand 922, at the end of this year, with “a social investment in Mexico in this sexennium which is unprecedented and historic” for 22 billion pesos, of which the government of Mexico contributes 20 billion and the state governments two billion.

“It is an example that if we prioritize the problems of the most vulnerable, that if we prioritize Mexico, we can achieve well-being for all. We are moving firmly towards achieving the beautiful ideal that retirement is a universal right for all people with disabilities in Mexico,” said the head of the Social Protection Secretariat.

It should be noted that the social policy of the Mexican government is not limited to the pension for the well-being of people with disabilities, since more than 18,000 girls and boys with disabilities receive full institutional support through the support program for the rehabilitation and inclusion for well-being. -to be girls and boys with disabilities, for their rehabilitation therapies.

Secretary Ariadna Montiel indicated that, so far, the Ministry of Welfare has funded 584,000 rehabilitation therapies for people aged 0 to 17, with an investment of more than 700 million pesos between 2021 and 2022, thanks to an agreement with the Teletón Foundation so that all beneficiaries are cared for in Childhood Reintegration and Integration Centers (CRIT), through Well-Being Vouchers.

He recalled that in this joint action between the Government of Mexico and the Teletón Foundation join their efforts to build the CRIT in Tlapa, in the region of La Montaña de Guerrero, one of the most vulnerable areas of the country, for the taking in charge of girls and children with disabilities. In this rehabilitation center, the government of Mexico provided the land where it is built. This progresses in respecting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which establishes rehabilitation as a fundamental right.

The agreement between the Ministry of Welfare and the Teletón Foundation was signed on August 12, 2021 with President López Obrador as honorary witness. It should be noted that the Ministry of Social Affairs commemorates this day with a long day of delivery of the pension to the disabled in the States, thus endorsing the commitment to move forward towards the goal that everyone has this constitutional right.
