YouTube restores Donald Trump’s account

YouTube said it lifted restrictions on former US President Donald Trump’s account. The canal had been blocked from access since the Capitol invasion on January 6, 2021.

Meta reinstated Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts earlier this year. Her Twitter account was recovered in November 2022, weeks after Elon Musk took over the social network.

“We carefully weighed the ongoing risk of real-world violence while balancing the ability for voters to hear from major national candidates equally in the run-up to the election,” YouTube said in a tweet.

The platform’s decision (and justification) comes after Trump said he will run for president again in the 2024 election. Trump has more than 2.6 million YouTube subscribers and another 34 million Facebook followers and 23 million on Instagram .

In response to the lockdowns, Trump launched his own social network, Truth Social, early last year. Apparently, even after restoring other media, the politician remains active only on his own platform, where he has nearly 5 million followers.

According to Reuterssources opposing Trump’s return have already indicated that the content on his private network is the same that got him banned from other media outlets.
