Do meteor goldfish exist? What is known about rare species

The meteor goldfish is considered a rare species, since it has no proven scientific evidence. However, its appearance derives from several mutations of the common goldfish. Therefore, this type may actually exist, but is seen in very rare appearances.

One of these may have happened recently, when some Reddit users brought the issue to the social network, wondering if a species of goldfish found in a lake was of the meteor variety. Find out why they think this and what exactly this species is like physically.

Meteor goldfish: legend or truth?

Without any photographic documentation, the meteor goldfish was considered by the Society of Aquarists of Bristol to be a species born from a rumor or urban legend.

However, there is a great possibility of the existence of its species, after all, the goldfish has given rise to several distinct species, with different shapes, colors, fin styles and habits.

However, the most common species, which are found in pet shops, have a yellow or golden hue and can be the following: Kinguio, Dourada, Dourado sea fish, Pirajuba and Dourado (Salminus Maxillosus).

Additionally, there are wild species, which live in lakes and rivers, and those that have been domesticated for thousands of years in countries dating back to ancient China.

Therefore, it is believed that the meteor goldfish originated from one of these breeders, more precisely in the 19th or early 20th century. One of its main characteristics is the lack of caudal fin. To survive, it would move with another fin, as well as with its larger and better developed fins.

However, it is hypothesized that this fact contributed to the poor reproduction of his species. Furthermore, the meteor goldfish would have had more fragile health, being easily affected by the action of pathogens. As a result, the animal would never be found again. Therefore, it is now believed that the species would have become extinct and that speculation about its reappearance may have arisen from goldfish born with a deficiency.

In other words, the theory is that goldfish underwent mutations and were born without tails, which would lead some people to believe in the existence or reappearance of the extinct or even legendary meteor goldfish.

However, although the appearance of such fish has aroused amazement and curiosity in people around the world, goldfish have become the public’s favorite. The two even had names, calling themselves Chicken Nugget and Tater Tot.
