The millennial city has disappeared in the United States and no one knows what happened

One of the great mysteries of US history remains unanswered. The city of Cahokia, located in what is now the US state of Illinois, was home to approximately 15,000 people and was considered one of the most important in the region. But that all changed at the end of the 14th century and the city was simply abandoned.
