Do you want to avoid aging? Science has a solution

There’s no way around it, if you want to get younger you have to put that body to work. New research reveals that the accumulation of lipids, also known as fats, in our muscle tissues is associated with aging. And so far only physical activity has proven to be an effective solution.

The magazine published the discovery made by the University of Amsterdam Medical Center in collaboration with the UMC+ of Maastricht Natural aging.

After understanding the link between fat and the human aging process, researchers conducted new investigations on muscle biopsies of people before and after starting an exercise routine, which included an hour of physical activity a day. The comparison showed that BMP levels decreased in these individuals.

Riekelt Houtkooper, a professor at the laboratory for metabolic genetic diseases at UMC in Amsterdam and who worked on the study, believes that avoiding aging is not impossible.

“The idea that we could reverse aging has long been considered science fiction, but these discoveries allow us to understand much more about the aging process.”

While promising, these findings do not provide a complete answer to our “youth potion.” Researchers want to dig deeper and better understand how BMPs contribute to aging, what the consequences of their accumulation are, and whether this can be prevented with exercise alone or whether other forms of intervention exist.
