“We the Leros”: last chance for weekend love in key places

Sandrine Leroy (Charlotte Gainsbourg) tells her husband (Jose Garcia), who never answers her messages, that she wants a divorce. To persuade her, he organizes a weekend with the two teenagers at key locations in their love story. The pitch, the pitch, the Formula 1 hotel, everything that made them happy…

A series of caricatured comic situations about the importance of love and family and outrageous events that several popular comedians (Jérôme Niel, Baptiste Lechaplain) carry out, the film fails to capture all these little things that eventually lead to divorce. In this way, this break-up comedy tries to escape from the original concept – a trip to the past – to give it the enthusiasm of truth. It should be added that Charlotte Gainsbourg’s tremolo playing does not match well with the gums and fists, which creates the feeling of watching a film cut in two. Therefore, dissolution is near.

Awarded the main prize of the Alpe-d’Huez International Film Festival, We, the LerosFlorent Bernard (or Flaubert, author of short films broadcast on YouTube, screenwriter of the series Ali or a movie pest) confirms French cinema’s recent taste for rescuing couples in crisis: A trip to Italy (2023), by Sophie Lethurner, peace process (2022), Ilan Clipper and We smile in the photo (2022), by François Ouzan, the latter already offers the same type of plot.
