Propheco: This is what you pay extra for ordering food from an app

If you are one of those who have a desire and to satisfy it you take out your mobile to order it via a food application, be careful. To do this practice on a recurring basis could affect your personal finances.

In the September edition of Consumer Magazine, it is revealed that, according to the MX Internet Association, 14.5% of network users bought food or ran errandsduring the month of April 2022 online.

What components drive the cost of food applications?

• Shipping cost.
• Fees or commissions.
• Tips or gratuities.
• Inflated prices: Restaurants increase the price of their products by passing on the commissions the apps charge them to customers.
• Product differentiation: Some establishments ship fewer products or charge for additional ingredients.

Consumer Magazine did a comparison of the cost of making a sandwich and a salad at home versus ordering these same products from an application, where the following results were obtained:

Salad:

• Home made : 22.64 pesos.
• Request from an application: 227.35 pesos.

Sandwich:

• Homemade: 25.92 pesos.
• Request from an application: 64.90 pesos.

How to buy food online and save money?

If for time or other reasons you cannot prepare the food, Profeco recommends that youdirectly like the establishments or consult their social networks

In addition, some establishments have a free home delivery service and also, they do not transfer the cost of commissions and fees to the client.
