In 2022, more than 138 thousand tons of turkey products in Mexico and national production was more than 18,600 tons, while imports exceeded 120 thousand tons.

Ernesto Salazar, director of Economic Studies and Commerce of Comecarne, He said that from January to November, 1,414 tonnes more were imported than last year and prices fell by 5 percent.

“The indicators of imported volume and acquisition price from last November give an indication that the supply meets the level of demand for whole turkeys for the end-of-year holidays,” he told El Heraldo de Mexico.

He recalled that every year Mexico imports approximately 17,000 tons of whole turkey, of which 57 percent correspond to frozen products and that, according to the figures available for the period January-October 2023, 11,717 tons were imported, a higher figure of 1,878 tonnes or 19 percent compared to the same period in 2022.

Therefore, it is reiterated that the revision of the distribution of these products over the course of the year indicates that between September and December there are major sales of good eggs and in this period predominates the cantidad of frozen products, it is likely to be commercialized in December.

Regarding pork, he highlighted that between November and December its consumption increases due to a seasonal effect and during Christmas and New Year celebrations, with an annual percentage of 9.2 and 9.6 percent, respectively.

“Due to the volume of imported thigh and loin and the workshop sales prices in November and December, the volumes offered are sufficient to cover demand,” he said.
