$21.182 million enters Mexico from international visitors from January to August 2023

The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, announced that the foreign exchange earnings of international visitors between January and August 2023 were 21.182 million dollars, or 13.3% more compared to the same period of 2022 ; and also exceeding by 23.4% what was collected in the first eight months of 2019, or $17.161 million.

The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) highlighted that, based on the results of the International Travelers Survey published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), between January and August 2023, 27 million 924 thousand international tourists They entered the country, which represents 12.8% more compared to what was captured in January-August 2022; or 6.3% to reach the 29 million 796 thousand international tourists entered during the same period of 2019.

It indicated that the foreign exchange earnings of international tourists for the period January-August 2023 were 19.766 million dollars, which represents 11.9 percent more compared to the first eight months of 2022; also surpassing the currencies of the same period of 2019 by 26.1%, which were 15.677 million dollars.

Torruco Marqués reported that in the first eight months of 2023, 15 million 480 thousand internal tourists arrived in Mexico by air, which represents 9.4% more compared to the same period of 2022, also exceeding by 14.2% domestic tourists by air. captured in January-August 2019, or 13 million 558 thousand tourists.

He highlighted that foreign exchange earnings from international air tourists between January and August 2023 saw an increase of 11.2 percent compared to the first eight months of 2022, recording $17.813 million, which also represents an increase by 28.3% compared to the $13.880 million raised over the same period of 2019.

He highlighted that the average spending of international tourists by air between January and August 2023 reached $1,150.7; with growth of 1.7% compared to the same period in 2022, and exceeding by 12.4% the average expenditure of 1,023.7 dollars, recorded between January and August 2019.

The Secretary of Tourism clarified that during the first eight months of the year, 6 million 161 thousand passengers arrived in the country’s various ports by cruise ship, exceeding by 5.1% the 5 million 864 thousand cruise passengers who arrived during the same period. of 2019. He added that foreign exchange earnings from cruise day trippers amounted to $505.1 million, representing an increase of 24.3% more than what was earned in the first eight months of 2019, where $406.3 million was recorded.

The Sectur official indicated that between January and August 2023, the balance of international visitors was 15.409 million dollars, or 6.6% more than what was recorded in the first eight months of 2022; also exceeding the balance captured during the same period of 2019 by 44.6%.
