Foreign direct investment in tourism reaches $1,427 million in the first half of 2023

The head of the Ministry of Tourism (sector), indicated that, based on the records of foreign direct investment of the Ministry of Economy, in the second quarter of 2023, the IEDT recorded 699.6 million dollars, which is equivalent to 12.3% of foreign direct investment captured in the country.

He pointed out that the entities that captured EFDI’s largest stream, from April to June 2023, were: Baja California Sur with $330.6 million, or 47.3% of the total; Quintana Roo, $150.2 million, which represents 21.5% of the total; and Jalisco, $52.9 million, 7.6% of the total.

Likewise, he highlighted the IEDT recorded in this period, in the states of Nayarit, with $46.4 million; and Sonora with $32.3 million.

FDI in the second quarter of 2023

He added that, from April to June 2023, $10.7 million was recorded from Germany, while $8 million came from France.

He specified that, in the second quarter of 2023, the IEDT in furnished apartments and houses with hotel services was $664.6 millionand in hotels with other integrated services brought in $26.1 million, which together account for 98.7% of total FDI.

The Secretary of Tourism who pointed out that these figures are a sign of the confidence that Mexico offers to international investors and businessmen, reiterating that in 2022 the IEDT in Mexico was just over 4 thousand 245 million, 245% more than in 2019, and accounted for 11.7% of the total foreign direct investment captured in the country.

He stressed that this contributes to the development and diversification of tourist activity in the 270 places with vocation that Mexico has, allowing the benefits of the sector to reach the localities, thus complying with the instruction of the President .
