Suspension of concessions for new water plants
Faced with the scarcity of water which is beginning to be recorded in the country, the National Water Commission (Conagua) It will no longer be able to grant concessions where the vital liquid is lacking, according to the Ministry of the Economy.
Raquel Buenrostro Sanchezhead of the agency, announced that in the coming days a text will be published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) indicating that no new concessions will be granted in places where there is no more water.
“They will only make concessions with the exclusive authorization of the president (Andrés Manuel López Obrador),” he warned in front of business management representatives.
During the presentation of what will be the call for tenders for the Development Poles of the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, he stressed that there will be no new concessions because there are no of water and priority is given to community and domestic use.
Thus, he told the businessmen present that what they can do is invest in the north of the country in sewage treatment plants; sewage and desalination, et cetera, to replace this type of infrastructure.
He clarified that companies, especially in the automotive sector that are located in the Bajío, that already have dealerships or facilities will not have problems, but he warned: “if they need a greater volume, there will be no more authorization”.
José Abugaber Andonie, President of the Confederation of Industrial Chambers (Concamin)Asked about the limitation that there will be on the water, he said that it is a question that they will ask to analyze and, above all, which companies the official is referring to.
However, he came out in favor of Raquel Buenrostro’s proposal, on which the private initiative invests in the construction of treatment plants.
