The cannabis-based drug begins to be sold for delivery in Brazil

The National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) has authorized the sale by delivery of cannabis-based medicines in Brazil. The Brazilian pharmaceutical manager will be GreenCare, controlled by one of the largest global cannabis funds, Greenfield Global Opportunities. The delivery model started working this week.

According to information from UOL, the regulator allowed the company to have local drug stocks. The action will reduce the arrival of medicines to patients from 30 days to 48 hours. In addition, shipping will be free – in the current model, from direct import, delivery is at the customer’s expense. Delivery will be made by an outsourced company specializing in hospital logistics.

“In 70% of the national territory, we will be able to collect the blue recipe (controlled) at the customer’s home within 24 hours of the telephone order and we will return with the product on site after 24 hours”, explained Fábio Furtado, partner and commercial director of the agency.

The system is the first in Brazil, but it already works in other countries. The company’s expectation is to increase its customer base by 40% within a year, as highlighted by the pharmaceutical company president and controller of the fund, Martim Prado Mattos. The company added that, although direct sales over the counter, in person, were considered in the project, for now it is excluded.

“We realized the need for the customer to receive the product at home,” explained Mattos. “Today we already have thousands of patients who relate to our sales channels and there is no reason, at this time, to expose them to competition at the pharmacy counter.”

For now, cannabis extract is the only product available for delivery. Two more formulations will be available by December. The goal is to have six products within the next year.
