Sedena investigates soldiers’ actions in Nuevo Laredo

Elements of the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena) which were captured in a video widely circulated in the media with national circulation, will be investigated by the agency to determine the direction of their actions.

Through a press release, the military forces indicated that the investigation of the events recorded in the video started automatically the broadcasting of said audiovisual material.

“The Attorney General of Military Justice, within the scope of his jurisdiction, from the time this edited video material was released, officially opened an investigation into the facts determine responsibilities arising from military legislation.

The video would correspond to a confrontation that occurred May 18 in the vicinity of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, where a group of soldiers clashed with armed citizens, suspected members of organized crime.

For this reason, according to the military command, it is also the responsibility of the Attorney General of the Republic carry out a parallel investigation, find civilians among those responsible.

“There Secretary of National Defense reports that, as civilians are involved, the office of the Attorney General of the Republic is empowered to investigate them; In this sense, this unit cooperates with said authority in order to determine the corresponding responsibilities”, detailed the Sedena.

So far, the Attorney General of the Republic did not take a position on this fact. Meanwhile, the Sedena has promised to resolve the case with strict respect for human rights.
