This Friday, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador confirmed that the perpetrators of the journalist’s murder had already been identified. Marco Aurelio Ramirez Hernandez, which occurred last Tuesday in Tehuacán, Puebla. He pointed out that there are indications that the cause of the crime is not related to the journalistic activity carried out by the communicator.

In the morning, he pointed out that the murder was more linked to the political activity carried out by Marco Aurelio, since he was secretary of the government of the municipality.

“The authors of the material have already been identified, I hope as soon as possible (they are arrested), and also that they know a bit of the context,” he told the National Palace.

He added that Ramírez Hernández was a person very close to the former governor of Puebla, Miguel Barbosa.

“The late Barbosa was educated in Tehuacán, this gentleman was a close friend of his and he was secretary of the town hall of Tehuacán, where he was born. He was a good person, that’s the information we have. And it can already be seen, it seems that it has nothing to do with recent journalistic activity, it’s a question, it’s that he was secretary of the town hall, but it’s already happening, we’ll tell you inform,” he explained.

Support for the journalists’ union

The Governor of the State, Sergio Salomón Cespedes Pilgrimyesterday reiterated its condemnation of the murder of journalist Marco Aurelio Ramírez Hernández and said the state attorney general’s office had made progress in its investigation.

Once again he regretted the events where he indicated that he understood the “anxiety” that events like this generate in the journalists’ union, for which he accompanies his grief and I ratify institutional support and staff.

“I was attentive to what happened yesterday in Tehuacán, the events in which the life of journalist and former civil servant Marco Aurelio Ramírez Hernández was cowardly taken away from him,” he added.

He said he knew the journalist and said the entity respects the right to freedom of expression and in this case what happened is being investigated.

What happened?

On the afternoon of May 23, journalist Marco Aurelio Ramírez Hernández was shot dead by an armed group in Tehuacán, Puebla, while driving his car through the Agua Blanca subdivision. According to various witnesses, the attack occurred around 1:42 p.m.

After being shot, he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree. The authorities are already carrying out the corresponding investigations to clarify the facts.

The 69-year-old communicator was born in Puebla and hosted the radio program “Un cafecito con don ángel”, broadcast on Radio Estéreo 99.5 FM at 8:00 am. He has worked in media such as Cuarto Poder and the Periódico Central, and also served as Director General of the Government of Tehuacán, Puebla, under the administration of Felipe Patjane, who was sentenced to six years in prison for illegal use of powers .

Marco Aurelio is the fifth journalist murdered in Mexico so far in 2023, in addition to him are Gerardo Torres Rentería, from Guerrero; Abisaí Pérez Romero, from Hidalgo; Ramiro Araujo Ochoa, from Baja California and Carlos Acosta, from Mexico City.
