SSC Inaugurates First Generation of Inmate Substance Abuse Care Program

The Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) in Mexico City reported that inaugurated the first generation of 2023 of Comprehensive Addictions Care Program (PAIA) for persons deprived of liberty (BVG) in an effort to get them to stop using drugs.

Said actions undertaken by the government of the capital, led by Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, They are part of a comprehensive social reintegration of PPL in the Reclusorio Preventivo Varonil Sur, in the town hall of Xochimilco.

According to the press release, The first generation of the program is made up of 63 hospitalized people. “The project aims to respond to the consumption of psychoactive substances among people deprived of their liberty and who have the desire to suspend them in their entirety,” the SSC said.

Persons deprived of their liberty receive drug treatment

The SSC reported that persons deprived of their liberty receive therapeutic carewhere actions aimed at raising the standard of living in the physical, mental and social spheres are implemented.

For this reason, the 63 people are hospitalized for three monthsthat is, the inmate is isolated from the rest of the population to receive attention and treatment through psychologists and addiction social workers.

From 2009 to October 2022, the comprehensive addiction care program assisted a total of 2,669 beneficiaries deprived of their liberty. These actions respond to the strategies promoted by the Claudia Sheinbaum administration to guarantee the rights of all sectors of citizenship.
