Instagram: how to make a video on Reels with Stories?

As Instagram continues to quietly introduce new features to allow its users to share content, it now lets you easily create Reels from your Stories, both from archived Stories and Highlights.

This new feature works as a little help from Instagram, especially for reusing content already published. It takes a few seconds to turn the selected stories into reels.

Instagram: how to make a video on Reels with Stories?

Users can edit these Stories Reels like any other. You can change clip length, remove clips, add content from your camera roll, and select from different audio tracks. Not only is it a great repurposing tool, but, as mentioned, it also saves editing time since Instagram automatically syncs your clips with the music you select.

See how quickly you can use archived stories to create reels:

  1. In the Instagram app, tap the photo in the bottom right corner to open your profile. Then tap the menu icon, the three lines in the top right corner;
  2. For iOS systems, tap the “Archive” option. For Android systems, tap “Archived Items” to access your old Stories;
  3. Search for the Story you want to turn into a Reel and tap on it;
  4. Tap the “create” option at the bottom bar of the screen, then select the Reel option to convert it to a video;
  5. Select an audio or song as the Reel’s soundtrack. Then tap “Next”;
  6. Use Reel’s tools to edit your video or add other elements. Then tap “Next” again;
  7. On the post screen, write a caption, tag other users, or add your location. Then simply tap “Share.”

It is worth noting that this feature is not yet available to all users.

  1. Open your Instagram profile and access the highlights. Then choose the highlight you want to turn into a reel and tap “Create” in the bottom bar.

  2. Select an audio or song as the Reel’s soundtrack. Then tap “Next”;

  3. Edit your reel. You can reorder your stories, change individual duration, add new clips from your camera roll, and remove unwanted clips.

  4. On the post screen, write a caption, tag other users, or add your location. Then simply tap “Share.”
