MWC 2023: Xiaomi launches CyberDog, a robot that imitates a dog

During Mobile World Congress (MWC), the world’s largest mobile technology event, held in Barcelona, ​​Chinese electronics maker Xiaomi launched its own version of a robot dog: the CyberDog.

Costing just over $1,500, the quadrupedal robot comes fully equipped with an AI supercomputer powered by the NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX platform complete with 384 CUDA Cores, 48 ​​Tensor Cores, a 6 Carmel ARM CPU, and 2 deep learning.

Including touch sensors, cameras, ultrasonic sensors, GPS modules and more, this robotic creature is also equipped with an Intel RealSense D450 Depth Module for centimeter-scale obstacle avoidance. The sophisticated technology can create maps and navigate your environment in real time, as well as recognize human faces thanks to its specialized software.

Its level of engagement doesn’t stop there: designed to be enhanced upon receipt by dedicated Xiaomi developers and enthusiasts, owners can customize their robot friends in any way they choose to offer endless possibilities in terms of programming versatility, as CyberDog is built on open source.

Xiaomi’s four-legged automaton is very similar to the Boston Dynamics model, with some differences such as the fact that it doesn’t get dirty and has sensors that prevent the robot from bumping into things, and the ability to learn voice commands via a application, as well as costing much less than the US company’s nearly $75,000 model.

CyberDog comes to the market with a price tag of ¥9,999, which is approximately US$1,542. Anyone who decides to take the plunge and purchase one of these futuristic cyberpets can expect the investment to start paying off in no time. After all, it is estimated that these little robotic companions will soon be exceptionally equipped.
