Victor Vembanyama signs a triple-double with ten blocks, a rare game in the NBA

This is what we call a complete match. French basketball player Victor Wembanyama collected 27 points, 14 rebounds and 10 blocks in the Toronto Raptors’ victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Monday, February 12. That triple-double — the second of his NBA career since he accomplished a month ago against the Detroit Pistons (16 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists) — comes with five assists, all in 29 minutes of action.

A triple-double is achieved by scoring more than ten points in the same game in three statistical areas, most commonly points, rebounds and assists. To do so with more than ten blocks is much rarer, and only thirty players in North American League history have accomplished it. The most recent was on January 22, 2021, when Atlanta’s Clint Capela had 13 points, 19 rebounds and 10 blocks against Minnesota that day.

With those 10 blocks in a game, Victor Wembanyama broke his personal record of eight against Memphis in November 2023, and his 2m26 (including shoes) dominates the league in that category with an average of 3.2. match.

Successor to David Robinson in San Antonio

20-year-old Victor Vembanyama is only the fourth newbie (Rookie) First triple-double in NBA history. One of the great specialists was Spurs pivot David Robinson, whose Frenchman is the direct heir to the Texas franchise. Robinson was the last newbie proved such a performance in 1990, before the end of his career was nine.

Breathless in recent weeks, Vembaniyama made a dramatic improvement on Monday, as did his dunks and blocks that scorned Toronto and finished as the game’s leading scorer thanks to a superb shooting efficiency: 10-of-14 (71% success when he was on it). averaged 47%), including 2 of 4 from 3-point range and 5 of 6 free throws.

With the win, the Spurs won for the first time since January 27, ending a seven-game losing streak. With this eleventh win (43 losses), they still remain last in the Western Conference.
