Ceará debuts with victory in the Sudamericana

Ceará defeated Independiente (Argentina) 2-1 on Tuesday night (5th) at Castelão Stadium, in their debut in Group G of the Copa Sudamericana. With this victory, Vozão took the lead in the group with three points.

In the match that marked the debut of coach Dorival Júnior, who replaced Tiago Nunes, Ceará came out behind, after a goal by forward Togni in the 31st minute (at a time when the Brazilian team had a numerical advantage on the pitch, as defender Ayrton Costa had been expelled 20 minutes earlier).

However, the scenario of the match changed in the final stage, and, in the 15th minute, forward Mendoza left everything the same with a goal from a penalty kick. And five minutes later, Vozão turned around thanks to a goal by Zé Roberto after a corner kick (at a time when Ceará also had 10 men on the field, after the expulsion of Nino Paraíba).

The team led by Dorival Júnior returns to play for the competition next Tuesday (12), when it measures forces with La Guaira (Venezuela).

Saints defeat

Who didn’t have a good start in Sudamericana was Santos, who, playing at the Florencio Sola stadium, lost 1-0 to Banfield (Argentina). The only goal of the match was scored by forward Urzi.

The setback leaves Peixe in the bottom of Group C, without any point. The Brazilian team returns to the field for the competition against Universidad de Quito (Ecuador), on Wednesday of next week (13).
