Former MP Sylvain Wasserman offered Emmanuel Macron to lead Adem

President Emmanuel Macron on Monday (June 5) proposed appointing former deputy defense minister Sylvain Wasserman to head the Agency for Environmental Protection and Energy Management (Ademe), after the failure of his previous candidate, Boris Ravignon, was voted down by parliament in an unprecedented manner.

“The President of the Republic plans with the proposal of the Prime Minister [Elisabeth Borne]Appoint Sylvain Wasserman as the chairman of the board of directors. Adem, reports Elysee in a press release.

Parliament’s decision

Parliament must now approve the appointment of the 55-year-old former Alsace MP, who was defeated in last year’s legislative elections by Nupe candidate Emmanuel Fernandez after his first term in the Palais Bourbon.

At the beginning of April, the Parliament created a surprise when it rejected the appointment of the mayor of Charleville-Mezieres (Ardennes) (Les Républicains), Boris Ravignon, to head Adem, due to the desire to combine several functions.

It was the first time that a candidate nominated by Elysée, in Adem or elsewhere, has been challenged since the appointment procedure was introduced in 2008 under Article 13 of the Constitution. More than three-fifths of those elected voted against, the constitutionally required quota against the proposed appointment by the President of the Republic.
