Pension reform: “We ask the President of the Republic not to publish the law”

ICracks are turning into fractures and democracy is in danger of breaking down. The use of 49.3 to get the text of the pension reform, after an unsuccessful mobilization of citizens, is not just a political thunderbolt. This is a dangerous decision that further damages democracy and social dialogue. This is contrary to the promise made by Emmanuel Macron in connection with the presidential elections “change method” and to rule the nation with living forces.

The democratic crisis in which we find ourselves, and in which we are sinking further, affects not only our institutions. It penalizes every citizen and every citizen. This reduces our action power and wastes valuable time. It risks immobilizing a society where we need a collective, concerted and forward-thinking movement to bring about meaningful transformations, especially in terms of ecological transition and the fight against injustice.

Reassurance and responsibility

All energy will be needed until they are driven by anger and resentment. So now is the time to calm down and take responsibility. We, members of the Power of Life Pact, representatives of civil society organizations, ask the President of the Republic not to promulgate the law.

This decision will be the only one capable of preventing the violence of actions and words from prevailing in society. It is necessary to calm people’s minds, to give form to our democracy. It is also important that we are able to face the challenges that lie ahead of us together. Future projects – the ecological transition, the fight against poverty, the reduction of inequality, reindustrialization – require political will, work, ambition, but also trust, coherence and commitment from everyone. However, these ingredients are not met in today’s context.

We must find the conditions for a living social democracy. only.
