Cannes 2023: Queer Palm awarded to Japanese film ‘Monster’

Japanese movie monsterThe Queer Palm, an alternative award for the best LGBTQIA+ film, was awarded in the official competition at the Cannes Film Festival on Friday night. This feature film by Japanese master Hirokazu Kore-eda, with which he seeks his second Palme d’Or on Saturday, May 27. It’s a family affair (2018), begins as a drama about school bullying, told from multiple points of view.

Created in 2010 by critic Frank Finanz-Madureira, the Queer Palm annually honors a film and short film that deals with LGBTQIA+ or feminist themes among all Cannes selections. In 2022, she was engaged in a Pakistani feature film Joyland.
