The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) has signed an agreement with the company engie for the natural gas infrastructure developmentin the Yucatan Peninsula.

Manuel Bartlett, CEO of the company, said that this type of Public-private agreements strengthen the strategic position of the Commission at the national and international level, in addition to contributing to the economic and social development of the country.

The Mayakan Pipeline can supply six CFE production plantsbut with the commissioning of the two new generation plants (Mérida IV and Valladolid IV), and anticipation of future demand for natural gas in the regionthe need to develop additional infrastructure becomes imperative.

André CangucuDirector of Engie networks for the Americassaid the company seeks to support the country’s energy strategy and that one way to achieve this is to continue to transport natural gas through the Mayakan Gas Pipeline and extend the capacity of this essential infrastructure for the region.

The CFE stressed that through this agreement, it will seek to obtain economic advantages, like those already obtained in other negotiations.

“Today we have the opportunity to reiterate our commitment to the Mexican government to develop projects that accompany energy policy to democratize access to competitive and clean energy, supporting the energy transition,” said André Canguçú.
