In celebration of World No Tobacco Day, Manuel Bribiesca SahagúnPresident of the National Chamber of Catering and Seasonings (CANIRAC) in Guanajuatounderlined the firm commitment of the institution to the health of citizens and reaffirmed that this must be an unquestionable priority.

As part of this event promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO), Bribiesca Sahagun stressed that restaurants in the state must comply with the necessary measures to guarantee a smoke-free environment.

“Health should be above any economic interest and it is right for people to believe that the president has enacted a law. Honestly, this law is appropriate and promotes public health,” he commented.

It is important to mention that, since January 15, 2023, a new regulation of the General Tobacco Law came into force throughout the country, which prohibits the display of cigarette packs on store counters. In addition, smoking is prohibited in public places such as restaurants and establishments that offer food and drink.

This new regulation was published in the Official Journal of the Federation in December 2022which has generated discontent in the restaurant industry at the federal and state level.

However, the owner of CANIRAC clarified that since the President of the Republic, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, sent the law for its application in all the entities of the country, in Guanajuato they have respected it and complied with all the new measures, without resorting with legal protection.

“Despite the efforts of many people who sought legal protection, we were respectful and rejected protection. Instead, we adhered to the law and took action to benefit children and citizens. is why we support your smoking ban, because we believe that health is extremely important to us,” he said.

During the commemoration of world no tobacco daythe association took the opportunity to award “100% smoke-free and emission-free spaces” to 13 restaurants affiliated with CANIRAC León, among which Mestizal, El Cielo de México, Grupo Panteón Taurino, Mizaki, Cadillac, Wings Army, Las Duyas, Estancia Group and Paya Mía Group.
