Grupo Pachuca will have a DUEL with Alejandro Irarragorri in Spain for Real Oviedo
One of the most recent rivalries in Mexican football has been between commercial groups that control teams in the Liga MX. Pachuca Groupdirected by Jesús Martínez, as well as Orlegi Sports, directed by Alejandro Iraragorrihave been protagonists of Mexican football lately, and now they will also be in Spainwith duel between Sporting Gijón and Royal Oviedo.
The Atlas, current double champion of Aztec football, has been consecrated in the last two tournaments against clubs in possession of the Martínez group: first León in the Apertura 2021 and then against Pachuca in the Clausura 2022. There was no no history between these two camps whose representatives, according to the press, also have a quarrel which will apparently continue in the second division of Spain.

The new duel that Martínez and Iraragorri will face will be between Real Oviedo and Sporting Gijón, since the first of these two clubs has made it official that Grupo Pachuca has become the majority shareholder after Grupo Carso —by Carlos Slim— had no than 20% of the shares, 51% is now owned by the Mexican conglomerate and the remaining 29% is owned by smaller investors, many of them local.
This continues with the investment Orlegi made a few weeks ago when the acquisition of Sporting Gijón became official, a club they hope will return to the Spanish top flight.
Interestingly, these two teams give life to a great rivalry: the Asturian Derby, which was commanded by those of Oviedo, who won 49 of the 112 duels against Sporting, who only won 34. The first duel between them took place on December 5, 1926, in the Regional Championship of Asturias, while the most recent took place on April 16, 2022, in a duel in the second division, where the Real team won again .

In an interview for W Radio a few years ago, the head of Grupo Pachuca assured that he had no conflicts with anyone, but he did not rule out that the other party did and therefore there are tension between the two.
“Everyone is responsible for what he said, it’s as simple as that. I have no problem with anyone, on the contrary, I am people who build, I have been with all my people for 25 years and we we did nothing but build for football. We want there to be competition, for all the teams to succeed, I don’t just want León or Pachuca to succeed, but for everyone. We are an industry and the only competition we should have is on the field, outside of it we must be partners and united, each one taking charge of what he is talking about, ”he said at the time.
